Among the most characteristic berries, blackberries are without a doubt drupes highly appreciated for their taste which, depending on the variety, varies between sweet and slightly acidic. Generally speaking, blackberries are berries of spontaneous origin, which can be found practically in much of Europe, whose maturation reaches completion during the summer period, depending on the areas, which can vary from the month of June until around September. Over the last few years, the importance of these fruits in the diet has been underlined several times due to their content of antioxidant substances.

Use in cooking

Blackberries can be used for many different purposes in the kitchen: starting from the preparation of various types of cakes and desserts, through to yoghurts and ice creams, as well as to make noble liqueurs.

Preservation

Like most berries, blackberries are also famous for being particularly delicate: they can be stored for a couple of days in the fridge, or in the freezer for longer periods.

Curiosity

Blackberries are among the berries richest in folic acid, a fundamental substance during pregnancy against the risk of malformations.
