Ingredient

fennel seeds

The fennel plant, Foeniculum vulgare, is famous for producing the so-called fennel seeds: the latter are actually the fruits of the plant of the same name, and are often used as a spice to give a touch of different flavor to your dishes, particularly , those based on meat and fish. Fennel seeds are perfect for health, as they are anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, low in cholesterol, rich in fibre, fight high blood pressure, have diuretic properties and improve the digestive process. Fennel seeds can be found practically throughout Europe and, in several Mediterranean areas, there are also wild plants from which they can be collected.

Use in cooking

It is possible to use fennel seeds for a large number of preparations, starting from meat and fish-based second courses, passing through biscuits and, therefore, also to obtain good liqueurs.

Preservation

It is important to store fennel seeds in an airtight container, which is also stored in a cool, dark place.

Curiosity

Although one might be led to believe otherwise, in reality, the fruits of the Foeniculum vulgaris plant are fennel seeds.
