Ingredient

hop plugs

Hops are an aromatic plant related to none other than hemp, which is generally found in those natural contexts where two characteristics are present: a cool environment and rather fertile soil. The part of the hop that is mostly used for the preparation of culinary specialties or beer are the flowers: the latter can in fact be found in the form of plugs, that is, "tablets". From the hops we then obtain a precious and varied essential oil, within which there are a thousand different substances.

Use in cooking

The main use of hops in cooking is mainly related to the preparation of first courses such as risottos, soups and omelettes, as well as being used for the preparation of beer.

Preservation

It is very important to prevent plugged hops from coming into contact with oxygen: it should therefore be stored in an airtight container, which avoids oxidation.

Curiosity

In the past, hops were often used - outside of the food context - to make high-quality pillows, which were believed to induce sleep.
