Ingredient

Venus rice

This black rice, whose name Venus brings to mind the myth of the foods of the gods forbidden to most human beings, after having been a symbol of the power and opulence of the Emperor in China, has now become a variety of rice which is also highly sought after in Italy, produced in the rice fields of Vercelli, and consumed mainly to create first courses with a high visual impact. Venere rice, in addition to being unusually black in color due to the high concentration of anthocyanins, has antioxidant properties that are similar to those of blueberries.

Use in cooking

Also due to its unusual dark colour, Venere rice is often used to prepare spectacular risottos or as a complement to elegant meat and fish dishes: it must be kept in mind that its cooking generally takes twice as long as ordinary rice.

Preservation

Venere rice must be stored by keeping the package tightly closed, away from light, heat and humidity.

Curiosity

In the past, this black rice was a highly coveted and sought after food especially in China, where it only came to the Emperor: it is said, moreover, that it was also a powerful aphrodisiac.
