Ingredient

vanilla

When you think of vanilla, it is difficult not to let your imagination transport you to distant places, keeping in mind that this plant, originally Mexican, has since spread to various tropical countries. Vanilla pods, characterized by their dark brown color - which in the less valuable varieties becomes a little more black - are perfect for giving an extra touch of aroma to many sweet preparations in the kitchen, as well as to various drinks, the precious and inimitable custard and also first and second courses with a slightly oriental flavour.

Use in cooking

Vanilla is generally used to prepare desserts, creams, drinks and dishes belonging to the Italian tradition and other exotic cuisines.

Preservation

Vanilla must be stored inside a glass jar, placed in a cool, dark and dry place: the refrigerator, in this regard, is not suitable for this purpose.

Curiosity

Vanilla was already used by the landowning Aztecs to embellish cocoa, combining this delicacy with sugar.
