Here is the classic of classics: apple cake, something that no home with children should ever be without; it’s made in a jiffy when you feel the urge for something sweet, or on those long winter afternoons when it's raining outside. With the simplest ingredients, which are usually sitting in your store cupboard, and some real apple, emerges a truly wonderful flavour. Apple cake is a classic perfect for breakfast, as a snack, when you have guests or as a dessert to take when you are invited to a dinner party – it will satisfy anybody’s palate! Making this cake is very simple, just follow all the steps of our recipe, each with its own picture, and a superb cake will appear before your eyes. But be careful: as soon as its made it will vanish in seconds!
Beat the egg yolks with the sugar until the mixture is smooth. Add the softened butter and milk, then add the flour and baking powder. Beat the mixture well, adding more milk if necessary. Dice two apples and slice two others. Add the two diced apples to the mixture. Beat the egg whites until stiff and embed them into the mixture. Pour the mixture into a greased and floured cake tin. Cover with apple slices, arranging them in a radial pattern. Add some more flakes of butter. Bake at 180°C for 40 minutes.
