⏱ 30 min👤 10 pp★★★☆☆

As the winter season approaches and the days grow shorter, it's the perfect time to indulge in a rich and comforting sweetness like Chocolate Bombs. This dessert, typical of the culinary tradition of Basilicata, is a true explosion of flavor, thanks to the use of high-quality dark chocolate that, melted with butter, creates a creamy and intense base. The texture of these bombs is a perfect balance between a soft center and a slightly crunchy exterior, melting in your mouth and providing an unparalleled tasting experience. The preparation, which requires attention and passion, involves whipping the egg yolks with sugar until a fluffy mixture is obtained, then folding in the beaten egg whites, which add lightness to the dessert. This whipping technique is essential to ensure that each bite is a triumph of softness. Chocolate Bombs are perfect for serving during a Sunday lunch or as a conclusion to a dinner with friends, perhaps accompanied by a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a light cream, for a contrast of temperatures and textures. In Basilicata, where sweet traditions are rich and varied, there are several variations of this dessert, some of which include the addition of dried fruit or flavors like rum, further enriching the taste profile. Preparing Chocolate Bombs is not just a way to satisfy your sweet tooth, but also an opportunity to share special moments with loved ones, creating sweet and unforgettable memories.

Preparation

Melt chocolate and butter in a saucepan, ensuring they do not stick. Whip the egg yolks with the sugar. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Once the chocolate has cooled, incorporate all the other ingredients; the mixture should be soft and fluffy. Grease 10 molds (about 8/10 cm in diameter) with butter and divide the mixture among them. Bake, just before serving, in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and, while still warm, unmold and serve on a plate dusted with powdered sugar. Alternatively, prepare half a cappuccino cup of hot coffee with a bit of sugar and 2 large tablespoons of Nutella, mixing until the Nutella melts. Then, cut the bombs in half and soak them on both sides with the prepared syrup, placing plenty of whipped cream in the middle.

Tips
If you want to achieve perfect chocolate bombs, make sure that the melted chocolate has cooled to room temperature before mixing it with the other ingredients, in order to maintain the right fluffy consistency.
